Franz Muller

On 14 November 1864, Franz Muller was hanged for the murder of Thomas Briggs. It was the first railway murder in Britain. On 9 July 1864, Muller assaulted and robbed Thomas Briggs in a train carriage. He threw Briggs off the moving train between Bow and Hackney Wick. When other passengers entered the carriage, they were alerted by the bloodstains. Briggs was still alive when he was found lying by the rail track, but he died soon afterward.
