Galileo

On 22 June 1633 Galileo was forced to recant his view that the Earth moves around the Sun, rather than the other way round. He spent the rest of his life under house arrest. Only 359 years later, in 1992 the Catholic Church admitted it was wrong. www.localhistories.org/galileo.html

Sugar rationing

Sugar rationing in the USA ended on 11 June 1947 (5 years after it started). I don't think I would have survived sugar rationing. (In Britain sugar rationing began in January 1940. It lasted until 1953).
