Samuel Plimsoll
Samuel Plimsoll was born on 10 February 1824. Shipowners sometimes overloaded ships with cargo, which was dangerous and often led to sinkings. Plimsoll campaigned for ships to have a line painted on their side to show if they were overloaded and floating dangerously low in the water. His work saved many lives.
